| Wooden Oar - Macon |
There’s nothing that symbolizes the traditional sport of rowing more than a long pair of varnished wooden oars. Good wooden oars are only slightly heavier than carbon fibre, and their flexing motion helps to even out the stroke.
Another benefit of wooden oars is their durability. Well-engineered oars of both wood and carbon fibre should have sufficient strength to endure the most rigorous rowing, however wood is better at withstanding abuse outside of the boat. A wooden oar is more likely to emerge unscathed after being dropped on the rocks or being backed over by the car. For this reason they are also a good choice for rowing clubs or training schools where the equipment receives heavy abuse.
Our finely-crafted wooden oars are available with both Macon and Hatchet style blades. Blade tips are reinforced to reduce wear from contact with the ground. The shafts are hollow to maximize their strength for weight, and a thin layer of fiberglass sandwiches both sides of the blade for full durability. The oars come with hand grips and sleeves. Buttons (collars to prevent the oars from slipping through the oarlocks) are required.

Concept2 Carbon Fibre Oars
If you’re looking for the ultimate in performance along with minimal weight, carbon fibre oars are the answer. Concept II oars are used by 64% of Olympic rowers and many professional racing clubs. Although the feather-weight shafts weigh 1.5 kg (just over 3 lbs), they are very strong.
The oars come with sleeves, handles and blades. The dimensions for the length, inboard, and outboard are set for ideal performance with our sliding seat units, however dimensions can be modified by request.
There are two options for blade styles: Hatchet and Macon. Hatchet offer fractionally better performance while Macon presents a better shape for rowing without feathering (lifting higher off the water). It is seldom that one would want to row without feathering, but a wrist injury or jury-rigged oarlock could make this a benefit.
